Overview
Mobile Apps can support various sizes of sponsored image widgets on any configurable screen. This allows more dynamic sponsored content, and adds architecture to support future ad integration frameworks that demand specific image dimensions.
Feature Summary
Once enabled, the feature supports 4 new sizes of sponsored banners. In Sponsors, create a new asset and choose one of the 4 new banner sizes, and upload an image. The uploaded image can be cropped using the fixed ratio from the chosen banner size.
Requirements
Banners must must be designed at 2X resolution. For example, a 300x50px ad size would require an image dimension of 600x100px to maintain image clarity on high-resolution screens.
Use this chart as a guide:
Banner Unit | Ad Size | Creative Dimensions | File Format |
Large Mobile | 300 x 100 | 600 x 200 px | JPG / PNG-8 |
Mobile | 300 x 50 | 600 x 100 px | JPG / PNG-8 |
Vertical | 200 x 300 | 400 x 600 px | JPG / PNG-8 |
Square | 250 x 250 | 500 x 500 px | JPG / PNG-8 |
Using Banner Assets
In Mobile App Manager, configure a Banner widget and choose your sponsor and the new sponsor banner. The banner will display as a preview in the appropriate dimensions.
While App Manager will allow you configure multiple images in an image banner that auto-cycle in the mobile app, using different sized images in a single image widget will create a poor usability experience in the app.
What does it look like?
Currently all image formats display at full width and a ratio-locked height in the mobile apps.
Google Ad Manager
Supporting banner images of different sizes in the application ecosystem is the first step in supporting ad integrations which typically have specific size (ratio) requirements for the advertisements.
